Patio Furniture Accessories

Written by Lee Dobbins
Having great patio furniture can really enhance your outdoor space and make your summers more enjoyable but when you are shopping for furniture don't forget about the accessories.

It's not enough just to buy great patio furniture. In order to get the full enjoyment you need to make sure you have all the things that go with it. If you are buying a table and chair set, you'll need a good umbrella in addition to making sure you have enough room to seat the whole family. If you are getting some chairs and a settee, you'll need some end tables and maybe even a coffee table. Either way all your furniture will need great cushions and protective coverings.

Patio Umbrellas

No matter what type of patio furniture you have, an umbrella is a must to keep you out of the hot rays of the sun. You can invest in a wide variety of umbrellas and materials to create the cool place in the shade you have always wanted. Be sure to pick an umbrella that is sturdy to hold up against winds and that has a durable fabric. Sunbrella is the ultimate in out door fabric because of its breathable as well as durability against the harshest weather.

If your patio furniture doesn't have a mechanism to hold a patio umbrella, an offset pole patio umbrella is a great way to move with the sun. You can place it over your patio furniture set while you dine on your morning brunch or have it over your chaise while you sip a cool drink in the afternoon.

Patio Cushions

When buying cushions for your patio furniture it is important to get materials that are comfortable, long lasting, weather resistant and beautiful. You should make sure your cushions have the right density per size to maximize it's drainability and let water pass through it easily. If you go for cushions that are dacron wrapped, you'll be sure to get almost the same comfort you get in your living room. Your patio furniture cushions shouldn't feel like a flat box but should create an element of comfort and support for your back, dry out quickly when the get wet and last for years.

Patio Furniture Covers

When bad weather is on the horizon or at the end of the season, you'll want to protect your patio furniture with covers. Most outdoor covers are designed to be durable and withstand harsh weather. Since you want your covers to stay on, you should buy only furniture covers that have a Velcro fastening system. For durable covers, purchase UV treated fabric so you never have to worry about deteriorating due to the strength of the sun.

Your cushions need special protection from unwanted dust and heaven forbid the nesting of insects or other small rodents. Your best bet is to store them inside in the off season, but if you must leave them out be sure the are protected in a sealed cover.

Top 5 Advantages Of Teak Garden Furniture

by: Tom Houser
As warm weather approaches, you may find yourself searching for garden furniture. What is a backyard barbecue without garden furniture – after all, where would your guests sit? Though there is a wide variety of patio furniture, none is as beautiful as garden furniture made with teak. Why is teak a great material for garden furniture? Well, there are some distinct advantages, such as these:

Advantage #1 – Durable and Strong

Teak has many advantages over other materials used to make patio furniture. The first and most significant advantage is that teak is a strong, durable and beautiful hardwood from India, Thailand or Malaysia. This exotic material was first used in the Middle Ages as a shipbuilding material, so it had to be strong to endure the long voyages at sea.

Advantage #2 – Waterproof

After the ships were decommissioned, the boats made with teak material were still salvageable, since teak did not rot or rust, even when joined with metal. This is one of the reasons that teak is such a great material used to make garden furniture. So, if teak could survive long trips on the harsh ocean, image how well it will stand up in your garden—without rusting or rotting! These waterproofing advantages are what make teak garden furniture an exceptional choice for your garden furniture.

Advantage #3 – Low Maintenance

Garden furniture can be extremely high maintenance. Some materials attract dirt and grime more than other materials however, not teak wood. Teak, on the other hand, is very low maintenance, making teak garden furniture a great buy. If you are looking for a low maintenance material for your garden furniture, teak wood is the way to go.

Advantage #4 – Long-lasting

Since most people can’t afford to buy new garden furniture each year, another distinct advantage of teak garden furniture over garden furniture made from other materials is that it is extremely long-lasting. Teak garden furniture is so strong that it can stand the test of time, making it extremely cost-effective.

Advantage #5 – Stylish

If you’re looking for sleek and stylish garden furniture, look no further than teak garden furniture. To keep teak’s original color, all you have to do is use teak oil annually. Or, if you prefer, allow the color to change naturally over time. With so many finish choices, there is sure to be at least one shade and style to suit your garden furniture needs.

If you’re anxiously awaiting the warm weather season and especially looking forward to purchasing teak garden furniture, don’t forget the advantages that teak has over any other material—you won’t be disappointed. Durable and strong, waterproof, low maintenance, long-lasting and stylish, teak garden furniture should be your first choice when you shop for garden furniture.

Buying Furniture for the Elderly with Special Needs

by: Bob Benson
If you are challenged with buying furniture for an elderly person, there are a few things you should keep in mind as you start your search.

First, how is that person’s health and physical condition? Can he or she easily rise from and sit down into a chair? If not, furniture with special options are available. The seats of chairs and recliners rise to a higher level with the push of a button. The elderly person can simply back against it, then lower himself down to a seated position by pushing another button. Furniture technology is great!

Another thing to consider when picking out furniture for an elderly person is the fabric or upholstery on the item. If the elderly person tends to slide out of seating easily, a couch with a slick leather upholstery might not be as good a choice as one with a textured fabric. The texture of the fabric can help prevent slipping out of the seating.

Make sure the furniture you pick out for an elderly person is easy to clean. If they have other health issues that might mean occasional soiling of the furniture, they will need to be able to clean it quickly and thoroughly.

Most important when buying furniture for an elderly person is to remember that even though his or her eyesight might be a little less than it once was, the furniture should still be appealing to his or her taste. If your grandfather hates floral fabric, don’t buy him a room full of furniture with huge magnolia blossoms on it just because you happen to like it. If you are incorporating this furniture into your living quarters, and you and the elderly person who will be sharing your space disagree on furniture tastes, do your best to get the new furniture in a complementary shade or fabric. It doesn’t have to be an exact match. Use a solid blue lift chair to coordinate with your blue, burgundy and green floral sofa and loveseat. Make every effort to respect his or her taste while accommodating any special needs.

If you are buying furniture for an elderly or special needs person, ask questions of your furniture rep. Tell them about your special needs and concerns. Furniture sales reps are trained to help you fill your needs. If your local furniture store doesn’t carry what you need, chances are the salesperson can refer you to a website or medical supply store that does. If ordering furniture from a website, be sure you know all the shipping and handling costs up front. Also, find out warranty information. Don’t overlook medical supply stores in your furniture quest. In addition to medical necessities such as oxygen tanks, portable toilets and wheelchairs, many carry furniture items like lift chairs and recliners that can greatly improve comfort and quality of life.

If at all possible, take the elderly person you are buying furniture for on your shopping trip. Ask for input. This will insure your furniture purchase is one you’ll be happy with for a long time.

Outdoor Furniture and Great Outdoor Living this Summer

By: Jason Gerth
Outdoor living is more than garden gnomes and a few patio lanterns. Quickly gaining popularity with homeowners that have homes and yards of all sizes, moving entertaining and gathering spaces outside is a trend that is here to stay, driving sales of garden/patio furniture and decor as homeowners continue to turn their outdoor patios and decks into elaborate living areas.

Whether your plans call for pure relaxation, backyard cooking and entertaining, or just having a comfortable place to sit and keep an eye on the kids, your outdoor living areas are worth their weight in gold. Entertaining in the home is quickly migrating to outdoor spaces and this trend has helped fuel demand for new technology and design which includes outdoor kitchens, appliances, grills, outdoor furniture including Adirondack chairs and other value driven amenities and products. The draw to the outdoors comes anytime and anywhere, not just when entertaining or sitting by the pool.

Today, these architecturally and aesthetically pleasing outdoor escapes are an extension of your living space -- providing enjoyment and cool breezes on sultry summer days, a serene retreat, a relaxing nook to cuddle with a favorite book, and a charming yet functional room for entertaining. At the heart of outdoor living and entertaining for many is the desire to cook and dine alfresco, but the most anticipated part of outdoor entertaining is spending more time with family and friends and just being outside again. The main reason for the overwhelming preference is simple. We enjoy changing pace, experiencing nature with others.

Outdoor furniture is a good place to start when making your outdoor experiences people friendly. No matter whether your style is upscale teak, durable and timeless cedar or practical plastic, the deck patio furniture you choose is the most important part of comfort for anyone using the space. Adding an Adirondack chair and ottoman for example, will instantly transform your yard, garden or patio into an outdoor living space perfect for relaxing and entertaining. Outdoor furniture manufactured today nearly rivals the style and comfort of its indoor counterparts, and outdoor accessories to create any mood and decorate all kinds of outdoor spaces are available everywhere. Some folks opt for plastic furniture when they're decking out an outdoor living area, but, if you can afford it, wood is much better looking. As for other outdoor furniture, consider lounging chairs placed throughout the back yard. They could well be the most comfortable pieces of furniture in your garden.

Living and entertaining outdoors is a popular and growing trend in America; with a large built-in grill, refrigerator, warming drawer, side burner, beer dispenser, and gas-fired space heater and some outdoor furniture, your backyard patio easily becomes an extension of your living room and kitchen. Outdoor living as a retailing category is one of the industry's fastest growing segments. Outdoor Living is for play and a retreat. On a practical note, the number of people gravitating toward outdoor living is growing and with the population aging and the dearth of residences with access features, having an accessible yard will add to the value of your home. No longer defined by simple picnic tables, folding chairs and a citronella candle, outdoor living is the hottest topic in home landscaping and among the hottest trends in home design.

Real wood furniture

By: Furnituremanufacturers.net , Posted On: 2007-10-08

Real wood furniture comes under the most famous and demanded category of furniture till today. Its been in demand and had not turn outdated since hundreds of years and holds an history of its existence a way back when cave men got exhausted by living on floor and desperately looked for any other better alternative.

Woods that are molded into various shapes and fashioned into different styles comes under three categories:

Hardwoods
Softwoods
Composites

Even the term 'hardwood' or 'softwood' is highly contradictory. Hardwoods need not always is a hard or dense material. For instance, balsa wood stands amongst the lightest, least dense woods but still it's considered as a hardwood. If seen from a technical point of view, lumber is categorized as to how the tree reproduces. As per the nature rule, softwood trees remain evergreen round the year whereas the hardwoods create the beautiful autumn foliage that we all admire.

Hardwoods are regarded as the highest quality and the most expensive wood. Their natural colors ranges from the darkest woods to the lightest ones that can be even stained or painted to shell out more variety. Hardwood furniture is rigid so it is least expected to warp or bend and it is prized in all high quality homes. The woods generally coming in use for furniture production are cherry, walnut, oak, maple and mahogany.

Though softwoods are cheaper than hardwoods still they demand extra care. As they are not long lasting, it's is quite easy to scratch or dent softwood furniture. Moreover they don't stain as clearly and beautifully as the hardwood. Pine is an example of a softwood that comes in use for manufacturing furniture articles.

Composites falls under the category of cheapest and economical form of wood and is manufactured rather than grown.

1. Plywood: Multiple layers of thin wooden sheets are fixed together and is pressed. Plywood is durable and is resistible to swelling, shrinking and warping. There are some furniture articles made directly from plywood, but it is only used as a support when integrated into furniture.

2. Particle board: it is made from sawdust and small wood chips that is mixed with glue or resin and then shaped and pressed. When used in place of inexpensive furniture, it is usually laminated or covered with veneer. This becomes necessary as particle board has the tendency to split easily and the lamination prevents splitting.

3. Hardboard: it is made in the similar way as particle board is made but it is more stronger as it is given more pressure.

4. MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard: in this case, wood particles are joined together with resin and later compressed. It is harder and stronger than particle board or hardboard, and can also be cut like plywood though it is not as durable as plywood. The exposed edges of MDF are harsh and requires covering with molding or some other decorative material.

In technical terms, furniture manufactured out of these wood products is "real" wood furniture. Prices and quality vary from the hardwoods to the composites. The higher quality you desire for the more you are required to pay for it. The best part lies in the fact that if handled with proper care hardwood furniture would promise you a long lasting companionship. It is always suggestible to go for hardwood furniture, if affordable.

Keep Your Patio Furniture In Shape

Submitted By: Jeff Minter
All sorts of materials are used to make patio furniture these days, from the least expensive resin furniture to high-quality teak and wrought iron patio furniture. To protect your investment, whatever it is, you should seasonally check and repair as necessary your patio furniture.

Wooden furniture can dry out or mildew from exposure to weather. A good quality exterior penetrating oil is the best treatment for redwood or cedar patio furniture-both woods that are generally weather-resistant. Teak patio furniture needs different treatment. Teak furniture can literally live outdoors on your patio for years, thanks to the high oil and rubber content of teak. Many products meant for other types of wood patio furniture can actually deplete teak's natural oils, so make sure you use products that are especially meant for the teak furniture on your patio.

Wrought iron patio furniture can rust. Naval jelly is the best thing for removing the rust spots from patio furniture; if the surface has gotten rough, once the rust is removed you can sand the wrought iron. Be sure to use paint to touch up any exposed spots or it will rust again. If wrought iron furniture seems wobbly, some of its joints may need to be re-welded.

Aluminum patio furniture may also need joints re-welded from time to time. Most aluminum furniture can be cared for with the same products used to clean cars, and clear car wax can provide a good protective finish for aluminum outdoor furniture. Aluminum outdoor furniture that has been painted can be touched up with acrylic spray paint.

Plastic or resin patio furniture can be touched up with spray paint made for plastic; you can find it in home improvement stores and in art supply stores. Vinyl cleaners and vinyl protectants, such as those used for car upholstery, are good for using on resin outdoor furniture.

And don't forget to check the feet of your outdoor furniture. If the glides that come on most metal furniture come off, as the furniture scrapes against the ground it can chip; that will let in rust. Glides can also crack and break with age. Replacements can often be found at home stores or ordered online.

The Best Woodcraft Furniture At The Best Prices

Submitted By: David Faulkner
Well-made woodcraft furniture produced by skilled woodworkers has always been in demand, and that demand has grown with the realization that woodcraft furniture increased in value over time. Finely-made woodcraft furniture develops a patina as it ages, giving it a character much sought-after by antique collectors. Just walk by your local antique shops and see how many of its most prominently displayed items are pieces of woodcraft furniture.

Whether you are interested in using the high-quality woodcraft furniture--chairs, tables, or cabinets, for example--or, as with wall mounts or mirrors, just using it for ornamental purposes, you may be wondering how to buy it as inexpensively as possible to get the maximum return on your investment.

Woodcraft furniture retailers have found their own quality suppliers, and if you have the means to take advantage of their knowledge, you can go on a woodcraft furniture buying trip yourself.

The Philippines

The Philippine Islands are noted for their Catholic woodcrafters, whose artistic skills have been honed through hundreds of years of creating magnificent wooden religious icons. And with one of the most abundant forest systems in the entire Southeastern Asia region, the Philippines woodcrafters are never short of their raw materials.

Because the woodworkers themselves have a low cost of living, the woodcraft furniture they create can be sold directly for far less than it brings on foreign markets; the Philippines, in addition, are right on major marine and air shipping routes, providing you with dependable and low-cost shipping.

Nepal

Another country known for the delicacy and intricacy of its woodcraft furniture is Nepal. Nepal, tucked in between the borders of Tibet and India, is one of the world’s most isolated nations, and its unique culture is inspiration for its woodcraft furniture designs. Nepal also has an extremely low cost of living, reflected in the prices of its woodcraft furniture. Shipping items from Nepal, however, can be problematical, as most items exported from Nepal are sent to bordering countries with airport and ocean shipping access.

Europe

The European countries offering remarkable examples of woodcraft furniture with all the skill that centuries of artisans can impart to their descendants are Greece and Italy. And each country has ready access to international airports or ocean freight facilities, making their woodcrafter’s artworks well within reach of buyers all over the globe.

Woodcraft furniture of quality is always in demand, but that from the above countries has become increasingly popular among retailers, not only for its beauty and meticulous constructing, but because of its excellent pricing.

Nepal, a country between India and Tibet, boasts of the most intricately designed woodcraft furniture pieces. This can be attributed to the country's exotic culture, which has long been isolated because of its geography. Just like the Philippines, cost of living in Nepal is low, and you will find their prices fabulously fair. Shipping, however, can be a problem, and the items you will purchase might be transported to nearby countries before they can be forwarded to your address.

Teak Outdoor Furniture: A Gorgeous Selection For Your Sauna Surround Room

By: John Stidolph

The latest rage in outdoor furniture is teak furniture. It is considered to be quite the 'in' thing to use teak furniture for outdoors. It brings in luxury and a certain sort of royalty which stands durable in all weather conditions. Moreover, maintenance of teak outdoor furniture is minimum compared to other types of furniture. If proper care is taken for teak outdoor furniture it could last for as long as seventy-five years or more.

teak outdoor furniture is a popular choice by many due to its strength, durability and the ability to withstand most weather conditions. In fact during the eighteenth century, it was almost entirely used on seagoing vessels as decks and railings, particularly because of its resistance to weather and water damage. It was the wood garnished from many vessels, once they were retired, they were used to construct the first teak outdoor furniture.

Keeping this kind of history in mind, it's easy to perceive why this tropical wood is generally regarded as one of the leading materials for building outdoor furniture, be it lounges, deck chairs, tables or benches.

By now you can appreciate the advantages of choosing wood for your outdoor furniture because, you need to have something that is extremely strong and naturally resistant to the weather outside. Direct sunlight, rain, snow can be quite harmful to wood and hence one has to be careful of the type of wood that one is using for outdoor furniture. Teak wood is great for outdoor furniture due to its natural properties such as being high in natural oils, and resistance to rupture because of its tight grain.

The two main properties that make teak such a great material for outdoor furniture are, firstly it high natural oils content - making it extremely durable in rain, and all other weather conditions. Secondly, teak outdoor furniture resists breakage and rupture because it has a tight grain. Considering these properties, its not surprising that its perfect for making outdoor furniture.

Possibly the best draw of this proven outdoor furniture is that maintenance required to keep it efficient: none. Depending on how you want your furniture to look, it's absolutely acceptable to never touch your furniture except when you're relaxing and kicking back in it on a beautiful, sunny day. As mentioned earlier, it won't decompose, rupture or worsen in any way. The only consequence of no maintenance is that it will eventually turn a light shade of silvery grey, a look that a lot of homeowners actually enjoy. If one wants to avoid this and preserve the natural honey color then teak sealer can be used. Even the old furniture can get back the natural honey color by using a teak cleaner and then putting the teak sealer on it.

Teak is a bit more expensive than other outdoor furniture materials, but its high price is justified. You must remember that the teak outdoor furniture you buy for your patio or deck will last you a lifetime and doesn't require replacement. And so to recap, some of the many benefits of buying teak outdoor furniture include: comfort, style, material and longevity. Looking for quality outdoor furniture, teak outdoor furniture wins hands-down.

Our garden now looks wonderful dressed with a nice teak rocking chair. The teak outdoor furniture selections at GardenTeakFurniture.com. were tops. My patio is next for some teak furniture sets!

Caring for Specialty Floors and Furniture with a Dry Cleaning Mop

Author: vincent platania
A dry mop made from 100% cotton, for example, will not scratch the delicate surfaces on polished hard wood floors or specialty laminates. Over time, even the smallest scratches can create a dull appearance.

While it may seem counterintuitive, some types of flooring and furniture are best cleaned dry using a dry cleaning mop or in combination with a light cleaner such as a dusting spray. Hard wood floors and laminates, for example, can be damaged by too much moisture.

In order to keep the finish on these floors in the best condition, a cleaning mop specially designed for this purpose can create the best clean. A dry mop made from 100% cotton, for example, will not scratch the delicate surfaces on polished hard wood floors or specialty laminates. Over time, even the smallest scratches can create a dull appearance.

Dry cleaning mops are designed in such a way as to pick up and retain dust and small particles. As such, they are good for collecting dirt in between deeper cleanings. They also reduce the spread of dust and small dirt particles into the air, which can exacerbate allergies and asthmas. When used in combination with a dusting product, the chances of dust being kicked into the air by the mop are even smaller.

When cleaning a hardwood or laminate floor with a dry mop, begin at the far end of the room and work inward, using a figure eight pattern on the floor. This keeps the dust and particles moving toward you and is much easier on your back as it distributes the effort more evenly through your arms and back. Avoid using the mop to push the dirt and grime away from you as this can create dust flying up. The pulling motion, on the other hand, keeps the mop head in contact with the floor that eliminates dust kicking up. Keep the mop head in contact with the floor as you clean.
